Description:
This is a *beta* of NewFile.
Settings are not yet available, unless you manually edit the attributes.
To do:
* Fix what's wrong with the adding of the file type
* Add the settings window
* Add Win9x.-style naming functionality in create_name() or create_file()
in case of name conflicts. Ex: file.txt, file 1.txt, file 2.txt ...
*******************
New File Tracker add-on
As BeOS does not have a New... this & that file-type - submenu, in it's context menu,
I thought it might be convenient to have a little add-on that does about the same thing.
The basic idea of New File, is to create a new file.
The type of file is decided by an attribute that is attached to New File.
The file is created in the folder where the add-on was asked to run.
This is what happens, when NewFile is run as an add-on, by the Tracker.
If NewFile is double-clicked, it's run as an ordinary application.
It checks that it's in the Tracker add-on folder,
and if it isn't it asks the user for permission to move itself to that folder.
It shows a window where you can edit the settings.
The settings available are:
File Name Base name of the new file
Be Creative 1 to add a "serial number" to the new file,
if File Name is already taken. Similar to Win 9x.
Add Extension 1, to add file-extension, 0 not to.
Extension what extension (".txt" for example)
File Type MIME-type of the new file.
Open File 1 to create and open file, 0 to only create.
Use My App 1 to use "My Preferred App".
0 to use the App of the MIME-type.
My Preferred App app signature.
The settings are stored in the attributes of NewFile, which let's the add-on
be copied & renamed to, for example, New JPEG, Text File Creator, etc.
The Settings Window has also 3 buttons:
Clone
* asks for new name & keyboard shortcut
* copies NewFile to and renames it
* opens the new copy (the settings of the new add-on opens).
Remove
* moves add-on to Trash
Rename
* ask for new name & keyboard shortcut
* Renames itself
